Finding a job for an ex-felon in Indiana is a difficult task because most companies will immediately reject a person’s application upon seeing his criminal record. On top of that, many employers who are willing to accept a person who had been convicted of a felony only provide a minimum wage salary.
The Indiana Department of Labor has a program to assist persons with criminal histories. First of all, unemployment compensation is given to individuals who cannot find a job even if they are willing and able to work. To submit an initial claim, you have to register for work at one of the Indiana Workforce Development offices. Secondly, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit is given to employers who are willing to hire ex-felons, among other groups. Lastly, the Federal Bonding Program offers fidelity bonding insurance for those who cannot take advantage of regular commercial bonding.
If the felony is several years old, you may try to clean up your record at the Indiana State Police Central Repository. You can ask for a copy of your criminal record and learn the procedure for cleaning or sealing your record.
An ex-felon can also ask for job placement assistance from the Community Action Program (CAP), which helps individuals with criminal records by identifying companies that are willing to accept them. Meanwhile, the Next Step Programs of the Fletcher Place Ministry also offers job placement assistance after completion of a series of seminars. There are also community agencies that offer information on organizations and government agencies that help with vocational training and employment.

how do i go about finding a job for my fiance for when he gets out on parol?
Jennifer, my fiance was in prison for many months, which at the time seemed to be the longest time, but when he got home we contacted many companies asking about a job and many all said no, he was asked back for a couple of interviews but no job was landed, the best thing for him was to start up a little business of his own. We sat down at the computer and made some flyers for lawn care and outdoor style work (raking leaves, shoving snow, etc.) which was great, he always had something to do and the neighborhood and city was great. After he did this for about 6 months he went to a local lawn care service and but his small business on the application, he was finally hired and has worked there for about 4 months. Your fiance wouldn’t have to do a lawncare service but it could be a small little business that would lead into something more. Good luck to you both! Remember to think big but start small.
So, what lobbying firm do you work for? Because no one bothers to go through the trouble you have unless you're getting something out of it. Just human nature.
But while we're on the subject – Social Security is FOR THE LAST DAMNED TIME – an insurance policy, not a retirement account. Will you demand Allstate return your premiums if you didn't have a car accident this year? No, of course you won't. So stop clouding the issue, go out and get a job that doesn't demand you hand over your soul.
People who are still saying these people are racist are in some serious deception. One young man I know (who happens to be black) who had been going to my previous church was told repeatedly by his parents, friends, neighbors (who were all black) white people in general were racist & hated black people. I was never aware of this – until he told me that he had decided to become a Republican. He knew his family wouldn't approve because he was being CULTURALLY PRESSURED to hate whites & be democrat

Immigration reform makes strange bedfellows. Many Democrats and Republicans find themselves not in their normal party lines. Because of that, the normal result is to loose too many votes in the President's party to be made up by votes coming in from the opposing party. The last time we had significant immigration reform was under a popular Republic President with a Democrat dominated House and Senate, under Reagan. Many now see that effort as a failure because it did nothing to help the long-term situation. Bush came close to passing something, again with a Republican President and Democratic Congress. We'll see if Obama can pass anything significant. I have my doubts. It's a tough area.
I don't think he'll push it seriously unless he thinks it has a shot, but if he does, the political implications would be that any bill that passes would be bipartisan. That's a benefit. It will also attract the latino vote, which tends to be a swing group (really it's many groups, some of which lean left, some right, and some, like Florida Cubans, have been in flux lately).
