If you are a convicted felon and have been looking for a job in Indiana, you already know that this can make it even more tough for you to find a good job. If you’re smart about the problem, you can increase your chances of getting a great job, even if you have a felony on your record.
- Be Honest – If you try to lie on your application, you may get caught. Even if you don’t, you will always wonder if it will come up. If you are honest about your felony upfront you lessen your chances of losing the job once the employer finds out you lied on the application.
- Petition – If you think it’s unfair for felons trying to get a job in Indiana, there is a Petition for Indiana Felons looking for work. Will it be successful? Who knows. If nothing else, you can hear stories about looking for work in Indiana from other felons. You might pick up some good tips for finding a job.
- Goodwill Placement Programs – As can be expected, your local Goodwill Industries may have something in place to help felons locate and keep good jobs.

I am a 40yr old woman with a felony for theft 10yrs ago. I have no prior record, and no preceeding record. This one thing has kept me from being able to take care of my children. I have not been able to find a job and have had to rely on “relationships” in order to keep my children housed, clothed and fed. This is bull! I am a decent person who did one thing wrong. I have to pay the price as well as my children for the rest of my life.
How long have you been trying? What have you tried? Have you reached out for help from any programs?
seems like the only people that help felons are felons who get released from prison. they get them a car and a job and a place to stay and money to start out i did my probation did what i was suppose to payed people and now i am the one that suffers the most this is why i am going to vote incumbants out. period
My name is Sedrick Hawkins. I am 33 years of age an I am a multiple felon. I have 8 felon convictions that are seven years old some even 15 years if age.
Finding a job has been quite impossible and I have not been employed in close to 2 years. I know of no temporary service that will hire me. West Side Ministries tells me striaght up that with my kibd of record they have nothing for me. Urban League is a dead end. Most re entry places and placement places are a dead end.
All of what I am saying though is not complaining to a fruitless end. Ssee the problem isn’t that jobs won’t hire felons. The problem is not the system, or who ever fault it was to get your life atthis point.
The problem is convicted felons. We have sat around for more then a 100 years letting the powers that be pass stealth bills and pretty much do whatever and not standing up for oursleves. We are the problem because from state to state where the laws and federal policies concerning us vary to unreal extremes and why is that? It’s because we allow it. it’s because that we are so focused on trying to get some kind of get right in our own personal lives that we never mind the machine that is spitting out an exact copy of us.
The job situation and the level of opportunity that is needed to set yourself up to win is not going to happen until we get over our own shit and start creating orgainzed intiatives to get things done.
There is no calvalry. There is no one day it will work itself out. I am your tomorrow and you are mine. If you’re tired of waking up in the same day eating out of the same toilet you will join me and we can fight for our lives.
I just found this site and want to say thanks to the guide. You seem very helpful in providing resources for those looking for employment. I am helping my little cousin get back on his feet after serving time. I came across this and it has provided a good starting point. Just want to say thanks and keep up the service.
I am a 49 year old woman that just served 9 years for a drug crime. I graduated for 2 different collages and cannot obtain employment due to my felony record and age.I’m not entitled to food stamps because of my drug conviction.Where do I turn?
What resources have you tried already? Goodwill?
My boyfriend is trying to find employment. He does havea felony but no jobs will hire him and he is getting really discouraged. I saw about good will but are there any other places he can look? Any help will be appreciated.

No – but he should be allowed to pound sand into the 4th point of contact.
We studied this in our political science classes. Back in 2004, there was a mini-tariff war stated with Europe. What happened was that the Euro was trading very high against the dollar (sorta where it is now). Because the dollar was so weak against the Euro, American goods were incredibly cheap compared to their European counterpart. To balance out the price of goods so that European goods could compete with their cheaper American counterparts, the EU imposed a tariff on American goods. This hurt American sales in Europe and by act of congress, we amended our tax law such that American companies would not pay taxes on products and services shipped overseas. This was great for American products sold overseas because the profits realized there would not be subject to taxes; however, this permitted companies to escape paying taxes on goods also manufactured overseas, or services outsourced overseas. Furthermore, employees of American companies overseas would not be subject to personal income tax.
Companies began building plants and office buildings overseas where cheap labor and lower taxes could be found and this is when outsourcing began.
While outsourcing took jobs away from Americans, the reversal would most likely hurt our economy. Our corporations invested significant capital in moving their operations overseas. They are effectively entrenched there now. By raising taxes on corporations, they will realize substantial losses and jobs will take about a decade to come back here. Companies are faced with either destroying their profits by keeping jobs overseas, or recognizing a loss by abandoning their overseas factories.
The Bush administration and the Republican congress crafted the tax code to encourage businesses to ship jobs overseas. Our economy became structured around it. It is impossible to reverse the situation without damaging the economy. Nevertheless, the tax loophole was closed in 2010 with the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act. Republicans in congress voted against it. It is true, the bill will hurt the economy, but they fail to mention that their previous members created the problem and they have no viable solution to correct it.
Unfortunately, there is no sure way of stopping jobs from going overseas without destroying our economy. True, the Republicans put us in this mess, but the democrats aren't getting us out of it. The democrat's bill to stop the practice was passed months ago, so we can expect a longer recession and gouged corporate profits. Unprofitable companies don't hire more Americans.
Both democrats and republicans are disingenuous concerning this topic. They have both destroyed America with their policies and solutions.
