  • Administration. Working directly for the schools themselves can offer stability. There are many offices involved in running a school, and they often need support. Particularly, many schools hire telephone reps to call alumni and ask for donations.
  • Maintenance and Construction. For those with handyman or construction experience, be on the lookout for these jobs in college towns. Dorms are constantly in need of repair, and schools expand with new construction projects all the time.
  • Transportation. Almost any school of a decent size has shuttle buses running throughout campus, and they are often in need of drivers. In addition, third party transportation such as private buses and taxi services are more common in college towns.
  • Food Services. One thing students do best is eat. College towns often have a main strip of bars and restaurants that you can go to in person and apply. It is a good way to get a lot of applications in at once and make a personal impression.

If you live near a college, there could be many opportunities right in your town. Grab school newspapers and other local publications at college hangouts and check for job listings. If you are willing to work in various types of jobs, it can give you some traction on your search.
