Indiana is one of the leading states in the nation for higher education. Between South Bend, Bloomington, West Lafayette, and many other college towns, there is a wide range of jobs brought into local economies by these institutions. For those willing to work in a variety of industries, these college towns present many opportunities.
Here are some of the types of jobs to look for in a college town:
- Administration. Working directly for the schools themselves can offer stability. There are many offices involved in running a school, and they often need support. Particularly, many schools hire telephone reps to call alumni and ask for donations.
- Maintenance and Construction. For those with handyman or construction experience, be on the lookout for these jobs in college towns. Dorms are constantly in need of repair, and schools expand with new construction projects all the time.
- Transportation. Almost any school of a decent size has shuttle buses running throughout campus, and they are often in need of drivers. In addition, third party transportation such as private buses and taxi services are more common in college towns.
- Food Services. One thing students do best is eat. College towns often have a main strip of bars and restaurants that you can go to in person and apply. It is a good way to get a lot of applications in at once and make a personal impression.
If you live near a college, there could be many opportunities right in your town. Grab school newspapers and other local publications at college hangouts and check for job listings. If you are willing to work in various types of jobs, it can give you some traction on your search.

first off you should consider – WHY does your mum think he's going to do something bad? maybe she's just worried about you and trying to protect you, or maybe she notices warning signs that you've missed or ignored. You need to ask her why she thinks it's a bad idea and try giving her some reasons it's not.
secondly, you need to live your life. this guy sounds good but if he stops you doing things you need to do in your life (eg studying or working) then you need to do those things. don't let the relationship get in the way.
long distance relationships suck, but if you're sure he's not cheating on you that's good. you need to start making plans to move out after college – get a job, save up some money, study something that will get you a job in that area so you can be with him. If you want it, go do it, but sitting around isn't going to cut it.
Either way, you need to focus on achieving something instead of letting your mother do it all. Also consider she might have a point – ask yourself WHY she thinks this isn't working, and give her a reason to believe it IS.

About your story. Well, you didn't give us enough info to tell us how the story is gonna go. If I had a better idea at what your story is mainly about, ten I would be able to tell you what I thought. But right now it's too early.
But it DOES sound like it could be a good story, so don't give up.
